Without the art of dressing up and looking fly we would have no rock stars, no actors and no Comic-Con. #SDCC2016’s bevvy of boldly- fashioned boys and beauties boasted enough creativity to make Lady Gaga jealous.

Like every good human, we @HardRockSD love to judge, and we love even more to list our judgements numerically. So here you go – our Top 5 Fave Comic-Con costumes of 2016!

1. Hot Pink Chewbacca and Star Wars Pal

Like a cotton candy dream, this gorgeous duo evoked the rock n’ roll absurdity of 1980s music videos and reminded us all to Go Pink or Go Home.

2. This Uncannily Accurate Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock

All we have to say is that is NOT William Shatner and that is NOT Leonard Nimoy – but you’d never know it with grills and gear like those!

3. This Life size Depiction of Zoidberg from Futurama

His character from Futurama is a brilliant scientist, and we think it takes a brilliant scientist to concoct such a detailed and hilarious cos play version of him!

4. This Dapper Gentleman as David Bowie as Jareth, the Globlin King from Labyrinth

8 Stunning Photos of the Historic Gaslamp Quarter Sign

Our hotel is lucky enough to proudly stand at the foot of one of Downtown San Diego‘s most photographed landmarks – the legendary Gaslamp Quarter sign. While the historic district dates back to the waterfront industry boom of the 1870s, it wasn’t until 1986 that the Gaslamp Quarter Archway signage was conceived.

But my oh my, what a buzz it created! The luminous marquee continues to be one of the most photographed spots in downtown Diego.

Stretching over Fifth street at the corner of L, the sign is a mixed-media constellation of neon, incandescent and fluorescent light fixtures. The vibrant display greets passing trains and is only steps away from the world famous San Diego Convention Center.

The sign was designed by Harmon Nelson and David Robinson, inc and was intended to mark San Diego’s successful redevelopment as a world class city. We think Here are a few of our favorite photos of the sign that celebrate the vitality of our beloved strip of town. (Photo credit listed under image as caption.)

Where Zen Meets Zeppelin: Say Hello to Our All New ‘Rhythm and Motion’ Musically Immersive Spa Treatments

Let’s all face the music – plain ol’ spa treatments, no matter how luxurious, can get boring. There is only so much frou-frou flute music the average rocker can stomach. Nothing lifts a bad mood better than the seductive power of some stellar tunes paired with the soul soothing relief of a world class luxury spa treatment.

Thankfully at Hard Rock San Diego, we’re all about inspiring our spa-goers to ‘Live Hard, Purify Harder.’

Enter Rhythm and Motion, the world – and San Diego’s – first fully immersive music-centric spa menu utilizing amplified vibrations, pressures and patterns. This groundbreaking experience takes guests on a rhythmic massage journey — bass vibrations ripple through the massage table as treble beats come from above, sending pulses through the body and leaving guests feeling energized and invigorated.

Turning up the volume on the traditional Swedish massage practices, the massage therapist synchronizes movements with an expertly curated playlist as guests embark on a journey of the senses. Utilizing Hard Rock’s differentiator – music – each treatment connects the healing power of music with the artistry of massage therapy. According to studies from The Mayo Clinic, music relieves pain, enhances immune function and alleviates stress, and Hard Rock developed these cutting-edge treatments to provide an all-encompassing sensory rejuvenation.

Now available at San Diego’s Rock Spa, the new Rhythm and Motion treatments cater to all spa-goers’ needs:

• Synchronicity is a pulsating massage featuring a masterfully blended soundtrack. Utilizing greatest hits from yesterday to today, the treatment taps into memories to create an experiential journey, in sync with a performance of techniques, pressure and rhythm. The massage is infused with a choice of natural organic essential oils to reduce stress, ease muscle tension, and detoxify.

• Smooth Operator retunes the skin and rocks the soul with a two-part treatment that first removes impurities before introducing new nourishing elements. Starting with the rhythmical Sweetgrass-inspired dry brushing— a ritual that softly sloughs rough skin away— and closing with a soothing, detoxifying wrap to release impurities, hydrate and smooth the skin, Smooth Operator wraps it up on a high note.

• Face the Music combines the therapeutic benefits of sound vibration and clinically proven organic products to rejuvenate and hydrate facial skin. This journey leaves skin feeling smooth and refreshed, shedding years and restoring a star-worthy glow.

Wrap Remix is the ultimate healing experience, warming and enveloping guests in bliss before the treatment’s sweet finish. Benefiting the entire body, this treatment begins with a cleansing shot of ginger tea to jumpstart the detox process, followed by brisk, rhythmical Sweetgrass-inspired dry brushing. Skin is deeplynourished post-wrap with the combination of a 50-minute rhythm and motion massage and cleansing facial mask, completing the treatment. A refreshing shot of Rock Spa® Detox Tea is then served to maintain the state of ahhh even longer.

Rhythm and Motion signature treatments are priced starting at $225 and can be scheduled by calling (619) 764-6930 or via email at rockspa@hardrockhotelsd.com. Gift certificates are available. Rock Spa is open Monday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
